Taste of the Track Day

The BMW Car Club of America - Motor City Chapter has extended JAGM an invitation to participate in their June 2022 high performance driving school event.

Taste of the Track is part of a one-day high performance drivers school at Waterford Hills. The drivers school is an opportunity to put your car on the track.

Here's how Taste of the Track works.

It's for drivers who have little or no track experience, but who want to see what track driving is like. The session is limited to 12 students total. The event is in the afternoon starting at 1 pm. It consists of a classroom session followed by three 20-minute track sessions. Each track session is lead by an experienced instructor and followed by student driven cars. The runs are at a moderate speed - a limit of 50 mph - but that speed is guaranteed to seem fast through the turns!.

The classroom instruction discusses the basics of track driving; how and where you brake; how you use all the track; where you turn-in and exit on the corners, etc. The group uses the same “line” around the track that racers and the advanced driving school students use, just not at the same speed. Drivers in this group do not need helmets or tech inspections for their cars. The car simply needs to be safe.

The cost for JAGM members is $108, which includes a required $58 one-year membership to the BMW Club. They are required by their national club rules to limit their driving school events to members.

Even if you’re not participating in the driver’s school, Waterford Hills is a scenic course with many good viewing locations  —might be a pleasant way to spend an afternoon cheering on those members who are driving their Jags.
